Graham cautious for GB future
13/11/2007
St Helens forward James Graham has urged caution from Great Britain's fans and players despite securing a 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand.
Graham, who played in all three Tests against the Kiwis, has downplayed the significance of the series, even though it is the Lions' first series win over their southern hemisphere foes since 1993.
Hopes have been raised of a possible quest for the title at next year's Rugby League World Cup, but Graham believes there are bigger tests ahead and commentators should be reserved about the recent results.
"Things are going well, but we shouldn't get carried away," he said.
"I don't think a series win is going to change anyone's mind about Great Britain rugby league.
"We've put the series to bed now, so let's look at the future."
The 22-year-old also said he hopes that the last three victories will be the springboard to greater consistency - not just in the build-up to next year, but also over the next decade or more.
"I don't think people will take us seriously until we consistently put victories together," he continued.
"One series win isn't good enough. You've got to do it on a consistent basis.
"We don't want to have a group of lads in 14 years' time saying 'come on, we haven't won a series for however long'.
"There is no way we're going to accept just this one series victory."
