Half-back Eastmond signs contract extension with Saints
03/04/2008
St Helens half-back prospect Kyle Eastmond has signed a two-year extension to his contract that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2010.
The 19-year-old, who has been with the club since he was 12 and come through the club's highly-regarded academy, has been rewarded for his excellent form as a substitute this season.
Eastmond has made five appearances from the bench so far this year, scoring two tries and kicking a goal.
In total he has made only seven appearances for the club, but Saints chief executive Tony Colquitt has underlined the importance of securing the future of their young talent as soon as possible.
"This continues or policy of tying up home-grown talent," he commented.
"Kyle is an exciting prospect and if he continues to develop will be essential to the future of the team.
"He has already made a significant contribution to the side this season and will continue to grow in confidence and stature as it progresses."
Eastmond is something of a bright spot in what has been a very patchy start to the season for the Challenge Cup holders.
In their nine Super League games so far in 2008 Saints have won only five, leaving them six points adrift of league leaders Leeds Rhinos despite early-season aspirations of a title-winning campaign.
