Harlequins Rugby League hit by McCarthy-Scarsbrook injury
17/03/2008
Harlequins Rugby League have confirmed that Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook is likely to be out of action for up to four months after breaking his wrist during the side's trip to Leeds on Friday night.
The 22-year-old prop underwent surgery soon after the incident, which heaped further misery on the side following their 48-0 defeat to their rivals at Headingley, though this may not have been enough to ensure he returns to full fitness by the end of the season.
Commenting on the injury, Harlequins Rugby League Head Coach Brian McDermott has said: "This is a real blow for us as a team as well as Louie individually.
"He's one of our leaders on the field and we'll certainly miss him in
that respect."
McDermott added that the player had looked in sufficiently good form to merit an international call-up, though it is still possible that he will recover in time to join the England squad that is due to travel to Australia in the autumn.
The news means that Quins will be without McCarthy-Scarsbrook for their forthcoming Carnegie Challenge Cup tie against Castleford Tigers, the only all-Super League fixture in the fourth round of this year's competition.
