Head coach Noble wants contract talks with Wigan
18/04/2008
Wigan Warriors head coach Brian Noble has hinted he has opened negotiations with the club over an extension to his current contract.
Former Great Britain coach Noble has been in charge at the JJB Stadium since April 2006, replacing Ian Millward who was sacked after a poor start to the season.
Initially under Noble, Wigan continued to endure poor form in Super League and in his first season the club looked to be in grave danger of relegation as they dwelt at the bottom of the table.
However, a late turnaround in form preserved the club's top-flight status and in 2007 the team qualified for the playoffs before losing to eventual champions Leeds Rhinos.
And Noble said the club has "made considerable strides" since he took over and he wants to stay to see it through to a possible championship-winning campaign.
"I'd like to see the job finished," he told the club's official website.
"You've got to have pretty serious reasons to want to leave a club of Wigan's stature.
"I think we've made pretty good progress and there are really good things happening at club. When you are building a bridge it would be nice to see it painted."
Wigan are currently second in the Super League standings, with seven wins out of their first 11 matches putting them behind only reigning champions Leeds.
