Hemingway out after surgery
03/01/2008
Huddersfield Giants half-back Thomas Hemingway will miss the start of the 2008 Super League season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
The 21-year-old is beginning his rehabilitation programme, which will run for approximately three months and means he is ruled out until April.
The Giants begin their campaign at home to Super League title holders Leeds Rhinos on February 10th following the culmination of their pre-season schedule.
And while head coach Jon Sharp admits the loss of Hemingway is a blow, he was keen to have what he called a "long-standing" problem cured before the season gets underway.
"Thomas should be back to full fitness when the season is in full swing and when it's more important to have him available," Sharp told the club's official website.
"With all due respect to him, it was unlikely he would have featured in our first few games but later in the season he may be called upon to play a crucial role for us.
"It is reassuring to know that he will be fully fit if that's the case.
"Although I know how much Thomas was looking forward to the start of the season, this could still prove to be a big year for him."
