Huddersfield hooker George Gatis quits for personal reasons
22/04/2008
Huddersfield Giants hooker George Gatis has quit the club for personal reasons.
The 29-year-old Australian is leaving the club only three months into his recent two-year contract from the New Zealand Warriors.
A club statement said that Gatis's "personal circumstances necessitated an early return" to Australia.
"I have loved my time here at Huddersfield but my family need me at home right now," the player said.
"I had hoped to get through the year but it's not to be and I would like to thank the club for their understanding and the help they have provided me. The rugby field is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment and I wish the Giants every success in the future.
"From day one here the coaches, players, staff and supporters have been great to me and to not be able to see the job through was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make however I know I have made the right one."
Huddersfield's head coach Jon Sharp said: "I am really disappointed for George and everyone at the club that he has not been able to complete his two years with the Giants.
"He is a very popular member of the squad who always worked very hard at his game. I would like to send my very best wishes to George and his family."
