Huddersfield take Giant step to safety
06/05/2007
Huddersfield beat rivals Wakefield 36-12 in the west Yorkshire derby at the Millennium Stadium in Super League.
The Giants, who led by 20-6, were led by Chris Thorman who scored a try and kicked three goals.
Tries from veteran Robbie Paul, Jamahl Lolsei, Martin Aspinwall, and a brace from Stephen Wild completed the rout for in-form Huddersfield.
The Wildcats scored a try in each half through Paul White and Jamie Rooney, who also kicked two goals.
The result sees the Giants climb to fifth place, having been in relegation trouble earlier in the season, while the Wildcats remain in eighth spot.
Elsewhere, Warrington rammed in ten tries to thump relegation rivals Salford 50-18.
The Wolves were led by two tries apiece from Vinnie Anderson and Martin Gleeson.
Paul Johnson, Lee Briers, Henry Fa'afili, Stuart Reardon, Richie Barnett and Jon Clarke also touched down for Warrington.
The Reds scored three tries through Luke Dorn, Kevin McGuinness, and Andrew Brocklehurst.
The win for the Wolves sees them jump to seventh place while the Reds remain rock-bottom.
All 12 Super League teams played in Cardiff this weekend as part of the Millennium Magic event.
