Hull FC handed Berrigan boost
18/01/2008
Hull FC have confirmed that Australian Test hooker Shaun Berrigan will be fit for the start of 2008 Super League season, despite injury fears.
The KC Stadium outfit's new signing for 2008, who joined from NRL side Brisbane Broncos in the off-season, had been struggling with a shoulder injury he sustained in the Paul King testimonial against Huddersfield Giants last Sunday.
However, scans on Berrigan's injury have revealed it is not as serious as first thought and he should be available to make his much-anticipated debut against Warrington Wolves on February 8th.
In other injury news from the club it was revealed that stand-off Richard Horne will return by the fourth round of the Super League, much earlier than expected.
It was initially thought Horne may miss the majority of the season due to damaged ligaments in his foot but scans revealed the problem is a torn muscle.
"Richard has not had surgery on his foot," Hull chief executive James Rule said of Horne, who was ruled out for much of last season with a similar injury.
"The injury he struggled with last season was shown on the scan to have healed very well.
"This is a separate injury and no tendons or ligaments have been detached from the bone. We awaited the results of the scans and are delighted with the positive results."
