Hull FC keep local bragging rights
08/07/2007
Hull FC came from behind to beat local rivals Hull Kingston-Rovers 30-20 at Craven Park in Super League.
In a thrilling opening, Luke Dyer cancelled out Craig Horne's try for Hull FC.
After going 12-4 behind, Rovers hit back with tries from David Tangata-Toa and one from Mark O'Neill to lead 14-12 at the break.
But Hull FC sealed the match with three tries in 12 minutes from Scott Wheeldon, Willie Manu and Kirk Yeaman.
Rovers set-up a grandstand finish with a Rhys Lovegrove try but Hull FC held on for their second win over their rivals this season.
Hull FC star Danny Tickle finished with 14 points after a try and five goals to pass the milestone of 1,000 career points.
Hull coach Peter Sharp claimed it was a convincing victory.
"We probably didn't deserve to be behind at the break but we made a couple of errors to let them back into the game," Sharp said.
"There were blokes down everywhere at one point and it was a war of attrition. We lost a few and they lost a few.
"I thought Danny Tickle was outstanding. He's been terrific for us all year, had some good carries and it's hard to kick goals when you're a second-row let me tell you."
The result sees Hull move up to joint seventh while Hull KR remain in trouble one place off the bottom.
Both clubs have vowed to "ban for life" fans who invaded the pitch after the game with reports that Hull centre Kirk Yeaman was attacked.
Elsewhere, Warrington thumped Huddersfield 47-28 thanks to a hat-trick of tries from Chris Bridge.
Stuart Reardon, Michael Sullivan and a brace from Kevin Penny guided the Wolves to victory while Lee Briers kicked nine goals.
The Giants scored five tries through Robbie Paul, Shane Elford, Brad Drew and a brace from Ryan Hudson.
