Hull FC sign former Rovers skipper Webster
07/07/2008
Hull FC have completed the signing of their local rivals former Hull KR's former captain James Webster on a short-term contract.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Sydney, Australia, will join the KC Stadium outfit once he receives his British passport after being released by Rovers in May.
Webster had his contract at Craven Park terminated when he suffered a shoulder injury earlier this season, which was expected to keep him out of action for the rest of the year.
However, the half-back claims his rehabilitation has gone better than expected and he now believes he may be fit before the end of the month. Coincidentally, this means his debut for Hull FC could be their local derby against his former club on July 20th.
Club chief executive James Rule said the club are "confident" his passport application will be successful, adding: "We believe James will then become a valuable member of our squad and will provide the team with some vital qualities which have been missing because of our injury problems this season.
"In the meantime we will be looking to assist James with his rehabilitation on his shoulder and he can assist us with his knowledge and experience."
Webster describing his crosstown move as "exciting" and said he is looking forward to the challenge of playing for one of the sport's more prestigious outfits.
He also said he does not think of his contract as "short-term", adding: "Hopefully I can do enough between now and the end of the season to convince Hull to offer me a new contract.
"I'd like to think I can finish my career here in Hull."
