Hull KR Steeled for new season
21/09/2007
Winger Jon Steel has signed on for another year at Hull KR after being offered a new contract at the club by head coach Justin Morgan.
The former Scottish rugby union international, who switched codes in January 2005 to join the club from Borders, has been beset by injuries this season.
However, having played in the first 11 games of the 2007 season, he has impressed Morgan enough to be offered a place in the squad for Hull KR's second season in the Super League after winning promotion last year.
"I'm looking forward to getting back to playing," Steel said. "It's very frustrating only being able to observe from the sidelines.
"I'm excited to be part of such a great squad for next year and it's brilliant that the club can attract top quality players like they have done. The beginning of the season can't come quick enough."
Steel is hoping to challenge for a place in the Hull KR team as well as push for a place in the Scotland XIII, and Morgan welcomed his signing.
"Jon is a quality member of the team that has developed as a player since the club got promoted from National League One," he said.
"He is an honest and reliable winger that will definitely grow stronger with experience."
