Hull KR sign Briscoe from rivals

05/09/2007

Hull Kingston Rovers have announced a two-year agreement with full-back Shaun Briscoe, who is to be released by city rivals Hull FC at the end of the season.

Briscoe, 24, will join the New Craven Park outfit for the 2008 season after being told he would not be offered a new deal by Hull FC for salary cap reasons.

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan has claimed that the versatile Briscoe, who can cover in a variety of roles across the backs, fits the bill for the type of player he is looking to bring in ahead of next year's campaign.

"Shaun has a fantastic work ethic and will add a whole new dimension to the backs," Morgan said.

"He has a lot of experience and has played internationally for England which adds to his quality as a player.

"He continues to impress me with his ability to cover several positions and is a player that will definitely compliment the squad."

Last week Briscoe was told he was to be cut at the end of the season by Hull FC – the second time he has befallen the fate after he was cut by hometown club Wigan Warriors in 2003.

And at the time, Hull FC chief executive James Rule said: "It has been a very tough decision to make but we have decided not to re-sign Shaun for next year.

"Salary-cap pressures dictate that it is not economically viable to retain two full-backs on a level of contracts that Shaun and Motu [Tony] command."

Briscoe has scored 57 tries in 100 appearances for Hull FC.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18268558-ADNFCR
