Hull KR sign front row Crossman

25/10/2007

Super League side Hull KR have announced the signing of Melbourne Storm front row Garrett Crossman on a two-year contract.

The former NRL grand final winner will join the Robins until the end of the 2009 season as they bid to avoid the dreaded 'second season syndrome' in the top division of European rugby league.

In their first season in Super League following promotion last year, Hull KR managed 11th place ahead of bottom club Salford City Reds who have been relegated.

And Rovers head coach Justin Morgan believes the signing of Crossman will help to establish the club as a regular in the division.

"It's great to be able to attract a player with such experience and knowledge of the game," said Morgan.

"As a club we are looking to move forward and build on what we have already established within Super League, I'm sure Garret will become a fans' favourite and I look forward to working with him."

With Crossman's signing, however, experienced prop Jim Gannon has been released from the final year of his contract.

The 30-year-old Australian joined the club from Huddersfield Giants in preparation for the 2007 season, but his services have now been deemed surplus to requirements following 24 appearances in the past year.

Morgan commented: "Jim is a consummate professional who played a significant role in retaining our Super League status for 2008.

"I'm positive Jim will be a good acquisition for his next club."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18330088-ADNFCR
