Hull KR to expand Craven Park for Super League licence
31/03/2008
Super League side Hull KR have announced ambitious plans to expand their Craven Park stadium as part of their licence application.
All existing teams in rugby league's top division, as well as any clubs with ambitions of joining the competition from next season, must apply to the Rugby Football League (RFL) for a licence.
The new system replaces the current promotion and relegation process and means all members of the Super League will be guaranteed their places for three years at least.
Teams must fulfil a number of criteria to qualify for a place in the 2009 Super League, with each application marked on four criteria - stadium facilities; finance and business performance; commercial and marketing; and playing strength, including junior production and development.
And in order to support their application, Rovers have outlined plans to increase their current stadium capacity to more than 14,000 by 2010.
The board have also highlighted the development of the club, which has increased its overall number of season ticket holders by three-fold to 6,000 and bolstered the number of off-field personnel from six to 32 in the last three years.
Hull KR chief executive Paul Lakin commented: "Over the last three years through a tremendous amount of hard work from everyone connected with the club, we have implemented and executed a plan to deliver elite rugby league to the east Hull community and beyond.
"Strategically over the next three years we will deliver a staged development of the ground, provide facilities to attract the best young local talent and continue the organic growth of the business commercially across all levels both locally, nationally and internationally."
