Hull appoint Sharp head coach
10/04/2006
Super League outfit Hull have confirmed today that Peter Sharp is to become the club's new head coach.
The Australian tactician is currently assistant to former Hull boss Brian Smith at Australian NRL outfit Parramatta Eels but has agreed terms to take over at the KC Stadium.
"I am delighted to become head coach of Hull FC," he said. "I am looking forward to working with a very talented group of players."
Hull sacked previous boss John Kear a week ago following a run of six defeats in seven games.
The side are currently in seventh place in the league but Hull chairperson Kath Hetherington believes that Sharp, formerly of Newcastle Knights, Melbourne Storm and Manly Northern Eagles, is the man to revive the side's fortunes.
"I am delighted we have secured the services of Peter. I am sure with his knowledge and experience, he will bring a new dimension to the team," Hetherington said.
"His ability to develop individuals will ensure all the players will reach their full potential. His reputation is enormous, everyone at the club is looking forward to his arrival with great anticipation, and I am sure Peter can take us to a new level."
Skipper Richard Swain, who worked with the new boss at Aussie side Newcastle, described Sharp as "a great tactician who will gain the utmost respect from the players".
