Hull comeback extends run
08/07/2006
Hull staged a great turnaround to beat Salford 24-20 and continue their 12 match winning streak.
Salford Reds looked like completing an upset at the interval as they led 16-6 but Hull are the Super League's form team and they stormed back into the game in the second period.
John Wilshere got Salford off to the best possible start he raced down the pitch with just 16 seconds on the clock before handing off to Aaron Moule to cross. It was all the more remarkable as it was Wilshire's comeback game after a broken bone in his shoulder.
David Hodgson then extended the home side's lead after good work from Luke Robinson allowed him nip over.
Hull came back strongly and got a try of their own just before the interval. Graeme Horne danced through the Salford defence to reduce the deficit before the half time hooter.
After the interval Hull bagged another try as Motu Tony opened the Reds' backline and the video referee decided the dummy-half had just managed to touch down.
With the momentum heading in Hull's direction Wilshire struck again to extend Salford's lead in the 51st minute.
Richard Horne then reduced arrears with 20 minutes left to set up Gareth Raynor's dramatic late winner.
