Hull end Noble honeymoon

30/04/2006

Wigan were thrashed 54-12 by Hull at the KC Stadium, ending coach Brian Noble's brief honeymoon at his new club.

Hull were 42-0 up by half-time with Lee Radford, Kirk Yeaman, Kirk Dixon, Nathan Blacklock (two) and Motu Tony (two) all crossing the tryline.

Pat Richards and Jordan James did muster tries for Wigan in a brief revival after the break.

But further tries from Richard Horne and Dixon, with Paul Cooke landing all nine goals, completed the Hull rout.

Wigan won at Huddersfield last week in Noble's first game after arriving from Bradford Bulls.

But this huge defeat, their tenth of the season, leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Super League.

In the day's other game, Castleford came from 26-8 down in the final quarter to beat Salford 28-26 at The Jungle.

The Tigers appeared to have maintained their impressive start to the season when they came from 8-6 down to lead 16-8 at half-time.

They then added further tries by Hodgson and Langi to go 26-8 ahead.

But in a frantic final quarter, the home side scored four tries, Richard Fa'aoso, Danny Nutley, Gray Viane and Willie Manu all crossing to cap the fightback.

The win lifts Castleford two points clear of Catalans Dragons, third from the bottom of the table, while Salford are ahead of Hull on points difference in fourth.
