Hull hit with record fine over Thackray

08/07/2008

Hull FC have been handed a record £100,000 fine for fielding Jamie Thackray while he was ineligible in two rounds of the Challenge Cup earlier this season.

The fine, of which £40,000 is to be suspended for 12 months, comes after the sport's governing body the Rugby Football League (RFL) found the club breached the operational rules.

Hull fielded Thackray in the 42-5 fourth-round win at Rochdale on April 20th and also in the 32-18 fifth-round win at Widnes on May 11th, despite re-signing the player from Leeds Rhinos after the deadline of March 3rd.

The club, who are due to face Wakefield Wildcats in the semi-finals on Sunday July 27th, escaped expulsion from the Challenge Cup because the rules do not include provision for excluding a team from the competition as a result of the offence.

The fine will be donated to a rugby league-related charity, the RFL confirmed.

Hull have seven days in which to appeal the verdict.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18673391-ADNFCR
