Hull make it lucky 13
16/07/2006
Hull have stretched their winning run to 13 games with a 36-24 win over Warrington at the KC Stadium.
While the home side raced into an early lead and were 24-12 up at the break, it was the visitors who were the better side in the second-half and they gave Hull a stern examination.
However, it was the Wolves' sixth defeat in seven games and coach Paul Cullen was left with nothing from a good performance.
"I thought defensively we were absolutely outstanding and in 80 minutes they broke our line once, which was in the 73rd minute," Cullen said.
"Offensively I thought we were the better team but when it's not going your way it's not going your way."
The game went with the form book early on as Hull opened up an 18-0 advantage inside the first 24 minutes thanks to tries from Danny Washbrook, Gareth Raynor and Motu Tony.
Toa Kohe-Love and Logan Swann replied for the Wolves but Hull went through the gears before the break and Richard Horne touched down to equal a 91-year-old club record of scoring in 11 straight games.
Warrington fought back in the second-half and put the home side under pressure with Brent Grose and Richie Barnett scoring for the visitors.
However, despite the pressure, Hull did enough to maintain their lead throughout the half and they also went over twice in the second period, with Tommy Lee and Shaun Briscoe getting their names on the scoresheet.
"We were still a bit patchy but I thought that we showed certain signs of improvement offensively," Hull coach Peter Sharp said of his team's performance.
"We're tending to invite teams onto us at times, with poor discipline, but we will work on that."
Hull travel to Harlequins for their next game, while Warrington will be looking to turn their fortunes around with a home win over Wigan next Sunday.
