Hull shock Warrington
04/06/2006
Hull KR managed a shock 40-36 win over the Warrington Wolves to reach the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.
In a memorable game, a Bryon Ford hat-trick of tries helped to push Hull over the finishing line after Warrington had led the match early on.
Logan Swann had been the dominant figure in the opening stages of the match, touching down twice to put his Warrington side into the lead.
Yet that lead would not survive the 40 minutes of the first half, as Hull mustered a fierce fight back.
Many had expected National League side Hull to put on a good show having shown excellent form in recent times and they did not disappoint.
Despite the early setbacks from Swann, it was Ben Cockayne who first scored a reply try for Hull, followed up by tries from Makali Aizue and Jon Goddard.
The tense 24-22 score line meant that Hull would need to continue their attacking form in the second half. That is exactly what they did, scoring first after the break through a try from Gareth Morton.
As expected from a top flight side, Warrington came on strong at the end of the game as Hull's players tired. Michael Sullivan and Henry Fa'afili crossed the try line to set up a nail-biting finale, but it was not enough to save Warrington's blushes and it will be Hull that progress to the last four of the competition.
