Hull stay in hunt after slaying Dragons

03/09/2006

Second place Hull kept the pressure up on St Helens after a comfortable 26-12 win over struggling Catalan at the KC stadium.

After trailing in the first half 6-4, the Black and Whites romped to victory with tries from Sid Domic, Richard Horne and Motu Tony.

Shaun Briscoe and Garreth Carvell crossed the line for the hosts in the first half while Paul Cooke kicked three goals as Mick Potter's side now trail the Super League leaders by four points.

The defeat leaves the Dragons rooted to the bottom of the table along with Wakefield on 16 points.

A late try from New Zealander Robbie Paul gave Huddersfield a dramatic 24-18 win over Salford at the Galpharm stadium.

The veteran scrum half crossed the line in the closing minutes to give the Giants their third win against the Reds at home this season.

Michael De Vere kicked four goals as the Giants ease their relegation fears and move into eighth place.

The Challenge Cup runners up had dominated the Reds and led 14-8 at the break after first half tries from Paul Reilly, Brad Drew and Chris Nero.

Late tries from Andy Coley and John Wiltshire looked to have given the Reds a share of the points, adding to Karl Fitzpatrick and David Hodgson's first half tries.
