Kear confirmed as new Wildcats boss
24/07/2006
John Kear has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats until the end of the season.
Formerly of Wigan Warriors, Sheffield Eagles, Hull and the England national team, Kear takes over from Tony Smith who was sacked on July 17th following four straight Super League defeats.
The Wildcats are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, below even Catalan Dragons, but 51-year-old Kear insists he is looking forward to the challenge.
"We've six games left of the current season, and have drawn a line in the sand so that as a squad of players we have a fresh start," he said today.
"It is obviously a massive challenge but one that I am relishing."
Wildcats chief executive Steve Ferres added: "John was an obvious candidate for the position.
"He has an enormous wealth of experience and proven success at the highest level.
"There is no denying that every match is now crucial for us as a club, but we remain confident we have the ability to put together a 'cup tie' end of season run in."
