Langley out for season
23/07/2007
Super League high-flyers Bradford Bulls have been handed a major blow after loose forward Jamie Langley was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old has been sent for reconstructive surgery on his wrist and will not recover before the grand final in early October.
Langley has been a key player for the Bulls in 2007, playing in 18 of the club's 24 matches so far this season.
And head coach Steve McNamara said the news of Langley's injury was "a big disappointment".
"We've had a bit of a frustrating year with injuries and none more frustrating than this one," he said.
"It's at a critical stage of the season and Jamie's loss is not only a big one for the team but for him personally as well. Hopefully he'd be featuring in a final and a grand final series, as well as Great Britain coming up at the end of the year and it is unfortunate."
McNamara also lamented the fact that the injury was very similar to two injuries that have already diminished his squad this season including one remarkably similar problem experienced by star man Matt Cook.
"It's unlucky to get one wrist injury a season but for us to have three players like that is very unlucky," he continued.
"But we'll press on and wish Jamie a speedy recovery."
Langley signed a new three-year contract in April which will keep him at Odsal until 2010 but the club will have to bid for a berth in this season's grand final without him.
Last season was the first in six years that Bradford had failed to make the Super League's showpiece event, although they are well-placed for the playoffs at the moment, sitting comfortably in third overall.
