Late drop goal gives Hull victory
20/08/2006
Hull closed the gap on Super League leaders St Helens to four points after a last gasp 11-10 win over Salford at the KC stadium.
A drop goal by scrum half Richard Horne clinched victory for the hosts after a tense second half with the scores tied at 10-10.
Peter Sharp's side led 8-6 at the break after a try from youngster Danny Washbrook and three goals from Paul Cooke.
The Reds kept themselves in the game with tries from second row Simon Finnegan and Australian John Wilshere with star man David Hodgson, who leads the team in tries and points scored, kicking a goal.
The victory means the Black and White's have won 13 of their last 14 matches as they fully capitalised on the Saints' shock defeat to Catalan yesterday.
Salford remain in the play off positions in fifth, six points behind champions Bradford with three matches remaining.
Hull's next match is against struggling Catalan on Sunday September 3rd followed by games against Warrington and Wigan as they aim to continue their momentum ahead of the playoffs.
Salford are away at playoff hopefuls Huddersfield on September 3rd and end the regular season against Castleford and Harlequins.
