League star Long rules out union switch
20/09/2006
Sean Long, the St Helens and Great Britain rugby league star, has ruled out the chance of him switching codes to rugby union next season.
The 29-year-old scrum-half has long been linked with a switch to the 15-man game and was recently backed to make the move by successful convert Jason Robinson.
But speaking to the BBC, Long said: "Not at the moment, no. It is not a thing I have really thought about."
He added: "I love playing rugby league and it is my passion. Why change something that is not broken?"
Robinson has been arguably the pick of the players to leave league for union over the years although Andy Farrell has finally got his career underway after overcoming injury.
When asked if he thought Long would be wise to switch codes, Robinson said: "When you have a player of his skill, with great pace and a great kicking game then why not."
Long said he was flattered to be described in such a way, saying: "That is a massive compliment off Jason. I knew him when he was at Wigan and to get accolades off him is unbelievable really."
