Long-serving Deacon signs new two-year Bradford contract

16/04/2008

Bradford Bulls scrum-half Paul Deacon has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract to his extend stay at the Grattan Stadium to 13 seasons.

The former Oldham Bears player signed for the Bulls at the beginning of the 1998 season, aged 19, and has gone on to make almost 300 appearances for the club.

Deacon, 29, holds the club records for points scored and goals kicked, with 70 tries, 22 drop goals and 1,002 goals amounting to 2,306 points in total.

And the Wigan-born Great Britain international said it was "an easy decision" to sign another contract, describing Bradford as "a home from home".

"I've been here that many years, I am part of the furniture," he explained.

"There were a couple of other clubs interested but if Bradford still wanted me I always wanted to stay here.

"I'm really pleased they do and to sign another two years at a top club like this, I couldn't be happier."

Bulls coach Steve McNamara said Deacon's signing is "fantastic news" and personally he is "absolutely delighted" the player has decided to commit his future to the club.

"He is a very influential player for us," McNamara stated.

"He has completed ten years service with the club and is in very good form right now and long may that form continue. He's Bradford through and through and we're delighted he's decided to stay."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18554055-ADNFCR
