Lowes joins McRae in Salford job race
24/05/2007
Former Great Britain prop James Lowes will rival Australian Shaun McRae for the vacant coach's role at Salford Reds.
Lowes worked as Harrison's assistant and the club's football director Steve Simms confirmed that he could be promoted to the hot-seat.
The Super League side are keen to move quickly to fill the post having disposed of Karl Harrison in the wake of the Reds' dismal start to the season.
"Jimmy has applied and he will definitely be on the shortlist, he's made it clear he wants the job," Simms said.
However it may be that Lowes, who was appointed as Great Britain's new trainer last week, depends on McRae turning down an offer before he can add another job to his growing CV.
McRae has extensive coaching experience in both hemispheres having taken charge of St Helens and Hull as well as NRL team South Sydney.
"Shaun is a mate of mine, I spoke to him last week. He was coming back to do some work with Sky and his wife Tina was coming back to see her family in St Helens. He doesn't even know the job's available," Simms added.
"When he gets off the plane, he might think it's not what he wants. I'll see him on Friday regardless."
