Maiava out, Cusack in for Hull
22/11/2007
Hull FC have drafted in Peter Cusack after sacking Samoan prop Hutch Maiava on disciplinary grounds.
Maiava was dismissed because of "gross misconduct" and has been released from the final year of his contract as a result, the club's chief executive James Rule said.
"We don't think it would be fair to comment on the specific incidents. After an internal investigation and disciplinary process it was decided to terminate his contract with immediate effect," he said.
According to media reports two disciplinary matters within the last five months contributed to the decision.
Maiava joined Hull from Cronulla Sharks in 2006 and has scored two tries during his 22 appearances for the side.
In his place comes 16-stone Australian prop Peter Cusack, the club's fourth close-season signing.
The Sydney Roosters veteran is a "tough, no-nonsense 30-year-old" according to his new club and has signed up for two years in the north-east.
"Peter will bring enormous experience to our pack and the team in general," coach Peter Sharp said.
"We also have to remember he has seen all the ups and downs of the game. He has enjoyed success with the Roosters and disappointment with the Rabbitohs having played with sides that have finished both top and bottom of the NRL."
