McGoldrick signs new four-year contract with Cas

29/04/2008

Australian full-back Ryan McGoldrick has signed a new four-year contract to stay with Castleford Tigers until at least 2012.

The versatile 27-year-old, who arrived at the Jungle in 2006 from NRL side Wests Tigers, is currently in his third season with the club.

The signing of McGoldrick follows closely the agreement with top prospect Joe Westerman and ensures the Tigers hold onto some of their top-rated stars in their bid for Super League success.

Tigers chief executive Richard Wright said the player had been "a tremendous capture" when he initially joined and described today's deal as "very significant".

"His form this season has been out of the top draw when in almost every game he has played he has been amongst our best competitors," Wright explained.

"Ryan is certainly something of a character but he has grown to love the club and he is hugely popular with the fans.

"He gives us plenty of positional options and has proved himself to be very durable, missing few games through injury.

"He himself wants to rank alongside our best signings from overseas, and if he hasn't already we feel that he will achieve that."

Since his arrival, McGoldrick has made 64 appearances for Castleford in a variety of positions, although he has recently been playing as a full-back rather than his original position at centre.

He has scored 97 points in his Tigers career, including 20 tries, eight goals and one field goal.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18573314-ADNFCR
