McNamara and Wilkin take monthly prizes
16/07/2007
Bradford Bulls coach Steve McNamara and St Helens back row star Jon Wilkin have been honoured with individual awards for their efforts for their clubs over the last month.
McNamara scooped the engage coach of the month accolade after taking his team to wins over Hull FC, Catalans Dragons and Leeds Rhinos as they fought their way into third position in the table.
Huddersfield Giants were also defeated as the Bulls progressed to the next round of the Challenge Cup.
"June was a decent month for us and the players put in some good performances," said McNamara.
"Obviously, it is nice to win the award. A coach is only as good as how well the team is performing, and its the players that have gone out there and put themselves on the line every single week."
Wilkin has played a key part in the Saints' continued dominance at the Super League summit with dynamic performances in victories over Salford City Reds, Hull Kingston Rovers and Huddersfield Giants.
"Im quite shocked that Ive won it. There are a lot of players I would probably think deserved it before me, but its a great honour to be the Super League player of the month," the Great Britain international admitted.
"This season I have come to understand what my strengths are, and come to understand more what people expect of me, so its been a really enjoyable time for me."
