Morley's Tri Nations hopes in tatters
24/07/2006
Adrian Morley could be set to be ruled out of the forthcoming Tri Nations series after being charged with striking.
Great Britain's Test front row forward was cited for raising his knee into Canterbury Bulldogs star Corey Hughes during the Sydney Roosters' 25-0 defeat on Saturday.
He face a suspension of anywhere between ten and 18 weeks, which could see him banned from playing in the Tri-Nations in November.
Morley, 29, will also miss the remainder of the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) season meaning he has played his last game down under.
He is due to start a four-year contract with Super League side Warrington next season but could even be banned from playing for his new club at the start of the next campaign.
Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan has defended the player in the wake of the incident saying he has been faultless during his six years at the club.
"Adrian is very popular among players at our club and at other clubs," Canavan told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"Most of his previous judiciary charges have been low-range careless high tackles so this is out of character for him and, in his time with the Roosters, he's certainly been good for our club and good for the NRL."
