Netherton completes Tigers move
25/09/2008
Castleford Tigers have secured the signing of Hull Kingston Rovers hooker Kirk Netherton on a one-year contract for the 2009 Super League season.
The 22-year-old, who joins from his hometown club, has also enjoyed spells at Rovers' local rivals Hull FC and National League side Doncaster.
Netherton made 23 appearances for Rovers in the 2007 campaign, with 21 coming in Super League, and is expected to add to the strong competition at the Jungle among the forwards.
Tigers coach Terry Matterson said: "This is a real opportunity for Kirk.
"He goes well and he is also versatile with some experience in the back row.
He will compliment Ryan Hudson and with Ryan, Kirk and Rangi Chase I feel that we have the dummy half role well covered."
Netherton added: "I'm really looking forward to joining the Tigers and a new challenge, and I'm looking forward to working alongside Ryan Hudson.
"I have seen that Cas have made a number of new signings, the squad for 2009 looks very promising and I'm pleased to be part of it."
