No mercy for home-town team, says Morley
04/05/2007
Great Britain and Warrington Wolves forward Adrian Morley says he will give no quarter to his home-town side Salford City Reds in Sunday's Millennium Magic clash in the Super League.
Morley has returned to English rugby league after spending six years in Australia with Sydney Roosters in the NRL and is now back living in Salford, the city of his birth.
But despite the obvious ties to Greater Manchester, and the bottom-of-the-table Reds' desperate need for points, the 29-year-old is determined to earn a win for Warrington to try to make a push for the top six and a place in the play-offs come the end of the season.
"I always keep a look-out for [Salford's] results and I hope they do well - but not this week," he said.
"It adds a bit of spice with it being my home town but we're desperate for the two points, as they will be, so it should add up to a great game."
On the Reds' plight in the Super League this year, Morley was hopeful that they could avoid relegation but was similarly focused on his own team's aims in 2007.
"They're not doing as well this year and I'd hate to see them go down," he continued.
"But if it means us winning on Sunday and them going down, then so be it."
This weekend's Millennium Magic fixtures will feature all 12 teams in the top division of rugby league playing over two days, starting tomorrow when St Helens play Wigan, Hull KR play Hull FC and Catalans Dragons face Harlequins.
Sunday's fixtures begin with the Yorkshire derby between Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos, followed by Morley leading his Warrington Wolves team against Salford and concluding with the grudge match between Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Wildcats.
