Noble backs driven Fielden to impress
10/11/2006
Great Britain coach Brian Noble has insisted that it is only a matter of time before Stuart Fielden returns to form ahead of tomorrow's Tri-Nations clash in Wellington.
Noble says that rugby league's most expensive player is confident himself the crucial match against New Zealand represents the perfect stage to prove that Wigan Warriors were justified in paying Bradford £450,000 for his services.
Fielden had a quiet game in the Lions' manly 23-12 triumph over Australia in Sydney last week, but suffered the ignominy of a broken nose after being punched by Willie Mason.
"His ego has taken a bit of a punching in respect to last week," Noble admitted.
"Stuart is 100 per cent and very determined. In relation to his practice this week and what he wants to do on this tour, he recognises that he's not played at his best.
"He just needs some form. What he is most disappointed with is the fact that his form hasn't been what he would expect of himself," the coach added.
"He's got high standards for himself and when you are driven like he is, I'm sure that the New Zealand public may experience that this weekend."
The Kiwis emerged victorious when the two sides clashed a fortnight ago in Christchurch, and New Zealand coach Brian McClennan is confident that his team will get their Tri-Nations campaign back on track with a win.
"We are really happy with everyone in the squad and we really believe that any one of the squad can do a good job for the Kiwis," he said.
Injuries have denied Noble the services of Brian Carney and Sean O'Loughlin, with Danny McGuire and Adrian Morley taking their place.
McClennan meanwhile has also been forced to reshuffle his pack; making six changes in all.
