Peacock happy to stay as GB skipper
23/01/2007
Leeds forward Jamie Peacock has admitted that he would relish the chance to take on the Great Britain captaincy full-time after being handed the armband on the Lions' previous two outings.
As vice-captain, the former Bradford Bulls player stepped into the breach after injury ruled out Paul Sculthorpe for the final two matches of last year's Tri-Nations tournament.
But Peacock admits that it is more likely that he will have to give way once his St Helens rival returns to full fitness.
"I would like to keep it, to be honest. I'm not going to lie. If Scully is fit, I won't be but that's the way things are. I'd certainly like to be vice-captain, for sure," he said.
The prospect of a foreign coach taking the Great Britain reins, a possibility that arose after the Rugby Football League's decision to make the post full-time, was another that Peacock refused to be ruffled by.
"They've got to get the right man for the job and the right people around him," he said.
"I'm not really fussed where he's from. I think it's important that whoever gets the job brings in a strong backroom staff as well."
