Peacock out of Leeds' opener
30/01/2007
Great Britain and Leeds Rhinos rugby league captain Jamie Peacock will definitely miss his side's opening Super League match against Salford on February 11th.
The 29-year-old has a fractured eye socket, which he sustained against Huddersfield last week, although the injury is unlikely to keep the prop out for longer than a week or two.
The socket has not been displaced so will not require surgery, meaning the Great Britain star will not need a lengthy time out.
He could even be back in time for Leeds' first home match of the season against Hull on February 16th.
"It is disappointing for Jamie that he will miss the first game of the season but the news is much better than we first feared," coach Tony Smith told the club website.
"We will wait to hear from the experts before he returns but we are hopeful he will be available for the Hull game and if not that, definitely the following week."
Peacock starred for Great Britain in the Lions' ill-fated tri-nations tournament against Australia and New Zealand last year and was the only player named in Rugby League World magazine's 2006 World XIII.
