Penny dropped but back for 2008
05/12/2007
Warrington Wolves winger Kevin Penny will be fit for the start of the 2008 Super League despite suffering a broken hand earlier this week.
The promising 20-year-old has been ruled out of the club's friendly match against Leigh Centurions on Boxing Day and will need up to four weeks to fully recover.
The new Super League season does not begin until February so Penny is expected to make a full recovery before the competitive fixtures begin next year.
He suffered the injury "after an accident at home", the club said in a statement but also said they are not expecting him to miss too much of the team's pre-season preparations.
"Kevin injured his hand at home on Monday, however, [he] is expected to make a full recovery well before the start of Super League XIII," the statement concluded.
Penny scored 13 tries in as many appearances for Wolves last season and his good form earned him an international call-up for Great Britain in October.
While he did not play in any of the matches in the 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand in the autumn, the youngster is expected to push hard for a regular spot in Tony Smith's squads in the future.
