Penny signs new Warrington deal
19/07/2007
Warrington Wolves winger Kevin Penny has signed an extension to his current contract that will keep him at the Super League club until 2011.
The 19-year-old scoring sensation, who scored a hat-trick in just eight minutes in Sunday's win over Salford City Reds, has negotiated improved terms on his existing deal.
His current tries tally this season is nine in just six games and Warrington coach Paul Cullen say he is "delighted he has committed his future to Warrington".
"He has the pace for all to see and has taken his chance [in the first team] exceptionally well," he added.
Penny's incredible recent form led to Richie Barnett being dropped from the starting XIII, and consequently released by the club to join Salford.
But the teenager, who is attracting the attentions of pundits worldwide comparing him favourably with legendary Wigan wing Martin Offiah, said he was never interested in leaving for pastures new.
"I am delighted to sign a new deal with my hometown club," he said.
"This deal means a lot to me. I was honoured that the club wanted me to stay here, so I think this made the decision a bit easier for me.
"I also think that we have some awesome players at the club, with more awesome players coming in - and I will learn a lot especially from the likes of Chris Hicks and Matt King, who I think is one of the best players in the world at this moment in time.
"But at the moment I am very focused on this season and producing the goods for the Warrington Wolves."
