Prop Burgess set for Rhinos debut against Castleford
07/03/2008
Prop Luke Burgess is set to make his Leeds Rhinos debut against Castleford Tigers in the clubs' Super League clash at the Jungle.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan to Super League rivals Harlequins, for whom he made three appearances, and he was also sent out to National League side Doncaster to gain first-team experience at a lower level.
However, with Great Britain international Jamie Peacock set to be rested for the match against newly-promoted Castleford, Burgess is in line for his first start in a Rhinos shirt.
Injuries to key duo Danny McGuire and Clinton Toopi mean Ashley Gibson and Jordan Tansey are also set for the starting XIII for the first time in 2008 as the Rhinos look to continue their perfect start to the season.
Castleford are already facing a battle of their own at the opposite end of the table, as they currently sit bottom of the pile after four defeats from their first four matches.
And despite the slew of absent key players for the reigning champions, Tigers coach Terry Matterson was reluctant to say whether he thought his side are coming up against one of the strongest sides in the country at a good time.
"Whether or not it's good or bad time to play Leeds I'll tell you on Saturday morning," he said.
"But if you're not excited about this match, there is something wrong."
