Radlinski backs Noble appointment

21/04/2006

Kris Radlinski insists Wigan's appointment of Great Britain coach Brian Noble will help reinvigorate the once-great club's fortunes.

Noble was unveiled at the JJB yesterday and Radlinski, a former Warriors great himself, told BBC Radio Five Live that his move from Super League champions Bradford was the best possible news for Wigan fans.

"He's just what the clubs need at the moment," the retired full-back said. "He's a man who likes players to feel good about themselves.

"He'll put his arm around them and tell them how good they are and try to pick their confidence up.

"I think that's what they're lacking - they just need a couple of wins under their belt and they're back in there."

Noble has been brought in to replace Ian Millward, who was sacked by chairman Maurice Lindsay last month following a dire start to this campaign.

Wigan currently sit bottom of the Super League table with just one victory from their first ten games.

But this start is recoverable, according to Radlinski, who played for Noble on the international stage.

"They've still got 18 games left, so it's not the end of the world yet - a few wins and anything can happen," he added.

"Some of the players they've got are outstanding - you don't become bad players overnight and I'm sure Brian won't need to change that much, he'll just need to remind them of the good points they've got and the club they're playing for."
