Reds shock Giants

25/05/2007

Rock-bottom Salford kept their survival hopes alive after a 14-12 win over Huddersfield at The Willows in Super League.

In their first match since the sacking of coach Karl Harrison after last week's embarrassing loss to Catalan, the Reds came out on top in the nervy encounter against the in-form Giants.

Kevin McGuinness touched down in the closing stages of the first-half to give the hosts a 4-0 lead at the break.

The Giants hit back immediately after the restart with a try from Stephen Wild and a goal from Chris Thorman.

In the closing stages, the Reds produced sweeping moves to score two tries through David Hodgson and Gray Viane.

The Reds had to hold-off a late onslaught from the Giants after a try from full-back Paul Reilly and Thorman's second goal reduced their deficit to two points with six minutes remaining.

The result sees Salford cut the gap on 11th placed Wakefield to two points while the Giants, who had won their last seven matches, remaining in fourth spot.
