Rhinos complete Kiwi capture

24/06/2006

Leeds Rhinos have today completed the signing of New Zealand international Brent Webb from New Zealand Warriors for next season.

The 25-year-old utility player has agreed terms on a two-year deal at Headingley Carnegie where he will link up with follow fellow Kiwi stars Clinton Toopi and Ali Lauitiiti.

"I am really looking forward to joining the Rhinos and excited about the opportunity to move to England and play in the Super League competition," he said of the move.

"Leeds have been challenging for honours over the past couple of years and I'm excited to be coming into that environment.

"I'm looking forward to teaming up with Clinton Toopi and especially playing alongside Ali Lauitiiti again. It's a couple of years since I played alongside Ali and I'm looking forward to being in the same team as him again."
Rhinos head coach Tony Smith said he was delighted the star, born in Cairns in Australia but qualified for New Zealand on residency grounds, had agreed to move to Leeds.

"Brent is a quality player who has shown he has what it takes to play at the highest level. He is still only a young player but despite everything he has already achieved, he is still keen to learn and progress as a player," he said.

"He is a versatile player who can play at full back or at half back and is also a goal kicker. He already knows a few people within our squad so I am sure he will settle in well and he will be a quality addition to our squad for next season. I am looking forward to coaching him and Brent being part of our organisation."
