Rhinos edge past Hull
16/02/2007
Leeds continued their 100 per cent start in the Super League after an 18-4 win over Hull at Headingley.
In wet conditions, the Rhinos rammed in three tries through Lee Smith, Kevin Sinfield, and Ryan Bailey.
Matt Sing crossed the line in the second-half for last year's Grand Final runners-up.
The hosts led 6-0 at the break when Clinton Toopi fed Smith who dived over into the corner in the 18th minute.
Leeds had the chance to extend their lead on 36 minutes but Sinfield sent his penalty from 36 metres wide after Hull's Graeme Horne was penalised for throwing a punch.
Eight minutes into the second half, Brent Webb sent through Sinfield who crossed the line and then completed the conversion to make it 12-0.
Hull hit back on 58 minutes when a cross field kick stopped in a puddle and Sing was on hand to bundle the ball home despite replays showing his foot had touched the line as he went over.
But Leeds sealed victory on 70 minutes when Bailey overpowered three Hull players to score a try, which Sinfield converted, to make it 18-4.
The result sees the Rhinos climb to the top of the table while Hull stay in eighth with one point from their opening two games.
