Saints edge out Wolves in try-fest

St Helens fired a warning to their rivals ahead of the playoffs after a dominant first half display to see off Warrington 38-30.

After trailing 16-0, the Saints fought back with tries from Jon Wilkin and a brace from Ade Gardner and Paul Wellens to lead 28-16 at the break.

Willie Talau and Vinnie Anderson crossed the line in the second half to seal their 24th victory from 28 games.

Tries from Paul Wood, Richie Barnett and Ben Westwood had put the Wolves, who finish the season in sixth, in front before St Helen's comeback.

Elsewhere, reigning champions Bradford held on for a 42-30 win over Challenge Cup finalists Huddersfield at the Galpharm stadium.

The Bulls were 18-6 at the break after a brace from Marcus St Hilaire and a try from Michael Withers.

Huddersfield, who had won their previous two matches, fought back with Martin Aspinwall, Wayne McDonald, Steven Wild and Stuart Donlan crossing the line to edge ahead 30-24.

But Steve McNamara's side clinched victory with converted tries from Marcus Bai, Shontayne Hape and Sam Burgess to boost their confidence ahead of the defence of their Super League crown.

Huddersfield finish the season in seventh place while Bradford end the regular season in fourth place.
