Saints go marching on

23/03/2007

Reigning champions St Helens rammed in eight tries to thump Hull KR 42-14 in the Super League.

A brace from Francis Meli along with tries from James Graham, Maurie Fa'asavalu, Paul Sculthorpe, Leon Pryce, Matt Gidley, and Lee Gilmour handed the Saints victory.

The visitors, who trailed 16-4 at the break, were led by tries from Jon Steel, Byron Ford and Gareth Morton.

The result sees the Saints continue their recent revival to move into third place while Hull KR slip to seventh spot.

Elsewhere, Wigan defeated last year's finalist Hull 30-20 at the KC Stadium.

The Warriors, who led 12-2 at the break, touched down five times with a brace from Pat Richards and Trent Barrett along with a try from Chris Ashton.

Hull improved in the second half and scored three tries through Hutch Maiava, Willie Manu, and star player Richard Horne.

The Warriors jump to fifth place with the win tied with five other sides on eight points while Hull remain in ninth.

Leeds Rhinos meanwhile climbed to second place after a 28-16 over Harlequins.

The hosts dominated from the start and were guided by two tries apiece from star man Danny McGuire and New Zealand international Brent Webb.

Six goals from Kevin Sinfield saw the Rhinos grab their fifth win of the season from seven games.

Chris Melling, Matt Gafa, and Paul Sykes crossed the line for the Giants, who remain rooted to the bottom after six defeats from six matches.
