29/04/2007

Reigning champions St Helens bundled in nine tries to thump Harlequins 44-6 at Twickenham in Super League.

The Saints were led by two tries apiece from Matt Gidley and star man Paul Wellens.

Leon Pryce, Paul Sculthorpe, Francis Meli, Stephen Tyrer, and Willie Talau also crossed the line.

Sculthorpe capped off a devastating display by kicking three goals.

Quins, who trailed 6-20 at the break, scored one try through Chris Melling.

The result sees the Saints consolidate third place while Quins remain in ninth spot.

Elsewhere, Bradford remain two points ahead of the Saints after a 36-24 victory over Warrington at the Grattan Stadium.

The Bulls rammed in six tries through Paul Deacon, Leslie Vainikolo, Richard Langley, James Evans, and a brace from Michael Platt.

Deacon and Ben Harris both kicked three goals each for the hosts in an emphatic second-half display.

The Wolves were level 18-18 at the break thanks to tries from Brent Grose, Vinnie Anderson and a brace from Lee Briers, with the 28-year-old also kicking four goals.

The result sees the Bulls go level with leaders Leeds at the top of the table while Warrington remain in tenth place.
