Saints go marching on

31/08/2007

Reigning champions St Helens moved ahead at the top of Super League after a 32-10 win over Harlequins at Knowsley Road.

The Saints rammed in five tries through Jason Cayless, James Graham, Paul Wellens, Chris Flannery and Lee Gilmour while Ste Tyrer kicked six goals.

Quins, who trailed 12-10 at the break, scored two tries thanks to a brace from Rikki Sheriffe.

The win sees the Saints move two points ahead of second placed Leeds with two games remaining in the regular season while Quins remain in ninth spot.

Elsewhere, Wigan look to have destroyed Salford's hopes of survival after a 40-16 win at the JJB Stadium.

The Warriors came back from 6-10 at the break to score seven tries.

Trent Barrett, David Vaealiki, Feka Paleaaesina, Phil Bailey, Sean O'Loughlin crossed the line while Mark Calderwood bagged a brace.

Pat Richards kicked six goals to move the Warriors into seventh place, one point off a playoff place.

The rock-bottom Reds scored three tries through Karl Fitzpatrick, Paul Highton and Kevin McGuinness.

The result means the Reds have to win their remaining two games away at Quins and at home to Warrington and hope their relegation rivals slip up.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield beat Warrington 34-22 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The Giants, who scored five tries with Cliff Thorman kicking seven goals, move into fifth spot while the Wolves slip to sixth.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18264719-ADNFCR
