Saints go marching on after thumping minnows in Cup

20/04/2008

Holders St Helens crushed London Skolars 56-0 in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup at Knowsley Road.

The Saints fielded an experimental line-up but still managed to score 11 tries without reply.

St Helens were led to victory by Chris Flannery, Willie Talau, James Roby and Kyle Eastmond grabbing two tries apiece.

Gary Wheeler had a try disallowed at the start of the second half, but he then made it a debut to remember when he collected Francis Meli's pass to cross the line.

Meli, who started the game on the bench and came on to play full-back, again turned provider for Talau to grab his second try of the game.

Jon Wilkin's try brought up the half century, and the romp was completed when Wheeler and Flannery combined to allow Ade Gardner to crash over.

Elsewhere, Wigan were the biggest winners of the day after a 74-4 win against SM Pia.

Mark Calderwood and Liam Colbon led the way with a hat-trick each for the Warriors against the part-time French side.

Wakefield booked their place in the last 16 with a 38-8 win over Salford at The Willows.

Last year's runners-up Catalan beat Featherstone 22-12 while Hull KR scored 12 tries to crush Workington 68-12.

Warrington survived a scare against Leigh, when the Centurions cut a 16-point half-time deficit to ten before the Wolves raised their game for a 28-16 victory.

Huddersfield Giants saw off local rivals Halifax, with a 42-24 away win against the National League One side. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18559403-ADNFCR
