Saints pile pressure on Super League leaders Leeds

29/06/2008

St Helens have notched up their 12th straight win after thumping Huddersfield 46-16 in Super League at the GPW Recruitment Stadium.

The Saints, who led 28-6 at the break, were led by two tries apiece from Maurie Fa'asavalu and Willie Talau.

Keiron Cunningham, Francis Meli, Ade Gardner, Sean Long and James Roby also touched down.

Tom Hemingway, Danny Kirmond, and Stuart Jones crossed the line for the Giants.

St Helens, who selected six players who played for England against France less than 48 hours ago, are just two points behind leaders Leeds while the Giants stay in tenth position.

Elsewhere, Shontayne Hape marked his final game for Bradford with a try in the Bulls' 40-20 win over Hull Kingston-Rovers at the Grattan Stadium.

Hape, who joins Bath next month, touched down just before half-time while Paul Sykes (2), Michael Platt, Simon Finnigan, Iestyn Harris and David Solomona also touched down.

Hull KR scored tries through Ben Cockayne, Paul Cooke, Peter Fox and Michael Dobson.

The win for the Bulls moves them into fifth place while Hull KR remain in ninth place.

Elsewhere, a last-gasp conversion from Chris Hicks handed Warrington a 24-22 win over Hull at the KC Stadium.

Hicks converted Matt King's try just five metres in from the touchline to keep the Wolves in seventh spot.

Lee Briers and Kevin Penny (2) crossed the Wolves' other tries, while Jodie Broughton, Shaun Berrigan (2), and Kirk Yeaman crashed over for the home side. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18660554-ADNFCR
