Salford keep pressure on leaders
14/04/2006
Salford beat Warrington 22-6 to keep the heat on St Helens and Leeds at the top of the Super League.
The away team ran in four first-half tries to secure the points, and held on in a dour second half as they went equal on points with second-placed Leeds.
Karl Fitzpatrick broke away for the opening score on 13 minutes and David Hodgson crossed the line soon after.
Henry Fa'afili gave Warrington some hope but two quick tries at the end of the first half from Luke Robinson and Stuart Littler put Salford in control.
The Reds defence was impenetrable in the second half as neither side added to their points tally.
There were injury concerns for Warrington, who lost influential half-back Lee Briers before kick-off while Chris Bridge was carried off with an ankle injury during the opening half.
Harlequins grabbed their first home win of the season with a 36-14 triumph over the Catalan Dragons.
The struggling London team rose above Wakefield in the league after running in seven tries.
Zeb Luisi and Rob Purdham marked their returns from injury with the game's first two tries before Sean Rudder pulled one back for the visitors.
Luke Dorn added a third for Quins right on half-time before the home side cemented their lead after the break.
Dorn's intercept try and a touchdown from Danny Williams were the pick of the scores after the interval.
